Swoon Sunday with Cody Burkhardt from Summoner by S.D. Grimm!

Welcome to Swoon Sunday where you get to meet some of our swoon-worthy heroes.  Today we have a visit from Cody Burkhardt from Summoner by S.D. Grimm!

Cody, why don’t you describe yourself for us.

Okay. I’m 6’ 2” and I have green eyes. My hair isn’t really dark, so what’s that? Blond, I guess?

What’s your profession?

Well, I’m in high school ATM, but I really want to own a ranch. I love working with horses.

Where do you call home?

Montana. But I currently live in Virginia.

What kind of music do you listen to?

The new Imagine Dragons album is awesome.

Do you have a special skill?

I’m really good at basketball. I mean, I’ve earned a few scholarships, so that’s cool.

What is your biggest dream/wish/desire?

I want to move back out west and open my own ranch and rehabilitate injured horses.

What’s your favourite dessert/food?

Snickerdoodles. I have a real sweet tooth. Chocolate Chip cookies are a close second. And did you know chocolate goes really well with oatmeal cookies?

Describe your idea of an ideal date.

Okay. Have you ever been on a horseback ride through the back country? The sun sets over the mountains in the distance. The stars come out one by one at first and then there are millions—no city lights to pollute everything. And my girl cuddles up to me, because she’s cold. But not too cold that she wants to leave. Well, *nervous chuckle* and then hopefully she wants to make out, you know? But we sit there, just enjoying each other. Enjoying the quiet. It’s pretty perfect.

What’s your favorite pastime/hobby?

Basketball and horseback riding.

What is your favorite movie of all time?

Captain America: Civil War.

What is one thing would you refuse to share?

My toothbrush. Is that the—did I answer the question? Oh, you want me to go deeper with that than I understood. Umm, well, I’m not going to share what I wouldn’t want to share. You know? So next question?

What is the one thing that no one knows or could never guess about you?

People who haven’t seen me play don’t expect me to be good at basketball, because I only have one hand and all, but I guess that makes it even more satisfying when I prove them wrong.

Boxers or briefs?

Haha. You guys are going deep with these questions.

Froot Loops or Lucky Charms (or both)?

Lucky Charms. No question.

Early bird or night owl?

Night owl, which is cool, because Allie, my new neighbor is a night owl, too. And she likes to shoot hoops with me sometimes. She’s really good.

Chunky peanut butter or smooth?

Depends. Am I putting it in Boiled cookies—or what do you guys call them? No Bakes? Anyway, chunky for that. For a sandwich, smooth.

What is your biggest pet peeve?

Bullying. Emotional, physical—I hate any kind of bullying.

What is your favorite sports team?

Easy. Phoenix Suns. I know we’ve had some rough years, but we’re rebuilding.

If you had to describe yourself as an ice cream flavor, what flavor would you be?

I’d have to say Rocky Road.

Liked this interview with Cody? Now check out a swoony moment about him from Allie’s POV:

Something in his eyes changed. Something that made me love the way he stared at me. It was as if I’d stepped over the invisible line and he was beckoning me farther.

His hand slid across the side of my face to the back of my neck. A shiver raced through my blood and goosebumps sprung up everywhere. His head dipped closer to mine. I couldn’t keep my eyes open. The warmth of his closeness had me trembling. His lips touched my cheek, just in front of my ear.

My skin was hyperaware of his body heat. The places where his fingers touched my clothes. Where my leg pressed against his.

He leaned back and his gaze latched onto mine, pulling me in to a place where time seemed to stop and then start up with every heartbeat.

His Adam’s apple bobbed. “They don’t bother you?”

“Your scars?”

He nodded so slightly, I almost missed it.

“Not a bit.”

He bowed his head closer and his hand touched the side of my face, gently. My skin tingled as his thumb brushed across my jaw.

About Summoner:

When Allie’s best friend dares their group to play a game in a cemetery—something she calls “witching”—Allie never expects what it might mean for her. When she plays, she doesn’t just find bodies, she summons their souls. But one soul wants more than Allie is willing to give.

And the boy next door could be the key to saving her.

Cody Burkhart. Straight from Montana, cowboy hat wearing, and smoking hot, he’s just the thing to help Allie become “normal” again after the death of her mother. And as her newly appointed Guardian, he’s also just the thing to help Allie ward off the vengeful spirit who’s after her soul. Except Cody has his own demons to slay that keep him closed off. But as the full moon approaches, so does their only chance to break the curse, and Cody will have to make the biggest sacrifice of all.
