Welcome to Swoon Sunday where you get to meet some of our swoon-worthy heroes. Today we have a visit from Demian Sweet from In Truth & Ashes by Nicole Luiken!
Demian, why don’t you describe yourself to us.
I have short, dark hair and a good build. My eye color changes with my mood. Sometimes they’re gold or pewter gray or bright as diamonds. Belinda says when I’m passionate they turn midnight blue.
What’s your profession?
Sculptor. I like to work with my hands and create art.
Where do you call home?
The True World. Your Water World readers may not be familiar with that term. It’s a world with both magic and science that borrows from all the Mirror Worlds.
Do you have a special skill?
Yes. I have the stone-heart talent and can shape stone my hands—which is very handy for a sculptor. I can also animate the statues as golems, by dividing my mind and putting a sliver of consciousness inside.
What is your biggest dream/wish/desire?
To Bond with Belinda. But first I need to convince her grandmother, First Councillor Ellona Loring, that I’m worthy of a Loring.
What’s your darkest secret?
I know the truth about what happened during Belinda’s kidnapping, but I swore a Binding Vow not to tell her.
What’s your favorite pastime/hobby?
Virtual Reality video games. They let me interact with Belinda before I learned how to sneak out of the house.
Describe the craziest thing you have done.
Fought a god.
Liked this interview with Demian? Now check out a smouldering excerpt between him and Belinda:
Even knowing it was unwise and would end badly, Belinda kissed him back. She grabbed a fistful of his shirt and held on, dizzy with pleasure. Excitement fizzed through her veins like champagne. Demian pulled her closer, one hand curled around the base of her neck, his kiss tender, hot, ardent. Her body was tinder, and he’d ignited her.
About In Truth & Ashes:
What she can’t remember could ruin her life.
The Mirror Worlds are but dull reflections of the True World, where magic and technology blend together…
On the True World, Belinda Loring has known from childhood that she must Bond with the son of another noble First Family. Uniting the families ensures hers will hold onto its powerful position, and so she’s always pushed down the tender feelings she has for her best friend—gorgeous, steadfast Demian, who isn’t noble.
But when the ceremonial magic goes disastrously wrong, Belinda becomes a national disgrace. Scorned as Broken, she turns to Demian for help getting revenge on the man who ruined her: the radical Malachi.
But the seeds of Malachi’s murderous plans lie buried in Belinda’s past, in the dark days of her kidnapping—a period of which she has no memory. And Demian may hold the key to recovering all that she’s lost—and saving the worlds.
